Villa Lago Meliquina
Patagonia Andina · Neuquén

Meliquina

A valley in the Andes, a lake, a village where time still moves differently.

The hamlet

14 km off the mythical Route 40, between San Martín de los Andes and Villa La Angostura.

Villa Lago Meliquina is a small rural village in the heart of Andean Patagonia, in the province of Neuquén. A wide valley at 1,000 meters of altitude, surrounded by forest, inside the protected areas of Lanín National Park.

It's not a mass destination — and that's what defines it. No shopping malls, no nightlife, no cell coverage. There's a lake of clear water, rivers full of trout, a night sky without light pollution and neighbors who know each other by name.

We've lived in this hamlet for over 25 years. What follows are the corners we ourselves visit.

What it's like to be here

Living Meliquina
as Meliquina asks.

No signal

Where the phone rests.

In the hamlet there's no mobile coverage. Satellite WiFi available at the property for whatever is urgent — the rest of the day stays in silence, as it should.

Own energy

Solar, wind, firewood.

The hamlet sustains itself with autonomous systems: solar panels, micro wind generation, bottled gas, spring water or wells. A different way of inhabiting.

Bring it, take it

No waste collection.

There's no municipal garbage service. That's why we ask each visitor to take back what they brought and respect the landscape. No fire in forest, beach or road.

How to get here

Via the scenic Seven Lakes Route.

Access via National Route 40 and junction with Provincial Route 63 (being paved). 60 km from San Martín de los Andes airport.
